Gillan (樂團)

Gillan 是一支於 1978 年由當時的前 Deep Purple 主唱 Ian Gillan 組成的英國搖滾樂團。在 1970 年代末期及 1980 年代初期，Gillan 是在英國產生重大影響並取得商業成功的硬式搖滾樂團之一，擁有五張排名前 20 的專輯及六首排名前 40 的單曲。樂團於 1982 年末解散，當時 Gillan 加入了 Black Sabbath，之後又於 1984 年重新加入 Deep Purple。

歷史

1978年：樂團成立

1978 年 7 月，Ian Gillan 對其樂團 Ian Gillan Band 的爵士融合風格感到不滿並將其解散，僅保留了鍵盤手 Colin Towns，並組成了這支名為 Gillan 的新樂團。他加入了吉他手 Steve Byrd、鼓手 Liam Genockey 及貝斯手 John McCoy，最初追求前衛搖滾方向，並於 1978 年 9 月發行了同名首張專輯，雖然他們僅在日本、澳洲和紐西蘭獲得唱片合約。這張錄音後來以《The Japanese Album》之名，由 RPM Records 於 1994 年重新發行 CD，而得以更廣泛地流傳。然而，RPM 發行的 CD 將原版的開場演奏曲〈Second Sight〉替換為另一首演奏曲〈Street Theatre〉。Genockey 在錄製完專輯及樂團於 1978 年在瑞丁音樂節（Reading Festival）首次現場演出後，便無法繼續待在樂團。在隨後的巡演中，他的位置由 Pete Barnacle 取代。

1978 年聖誕節，Ian Gillan 拒絕了 Ritchie Blackmore 加入 Rainbow 的邀請，但 Blackmore 確實在 Gillan 的聖誕演出中客串登場。這是 Ian Gillan 與 Blackmore 自 1973 年以來首次同台演出。

1979–1981年：輝煌時期

這張專輯的成功足以吸引更多關注，樂團於 1979 年與 Acrobat Records 簽訂了歐洲合約。在錄製新專輯前，Byrd 被 Bernie Tormé 取代，而 Barnacle 則由 Ian Gillan 在 Episode Six 時期的前同事、鼓手 Mick Underwood 取代。Torme 的「尖嘯吉他」聲徹底改變了樂團的動態，Gillan 也轉向了更重金屬的方向。這個陣容的首張專輯名為《Mr. Universe》，其中包含了許多改編自《The Japanese Album》的歌曲。專輯一發行便直接進入英國專輯排行榜，但由於 Acrobat Records 破產而停滯不前。這促成樂團與 Virgin Records 簽下多張專輯的合約。

1980 年，Gillan 達到了成功的巔峰，發行了專輯《Glory Road》，其首批發行版附贈了免費專輯《For Gillan Fans Only》。然而，樂團在北美仍然默默無聞，儘管在 1980 年進行了一場漫長而艱難的美國巡演，卻未能引起任何興趣。

到了 1981 年，樂團成員開始不滿他們在歐洲和日本的成功並未轉化為更多的經濟回報。在發行《Future Shock》專輯後，於德國巡演期間，就在樂團準備飛回英國參加《Top of the Pops》節目前，Torme 離隊。

1982年：掙扎與最終演出

Tormé 的位置由 White Spirit 的吉他手 Janick Gers（後來加入 Iron Maiden）取代，這個陣容在 1981 年底發行了現場／錄音室雙專輯《Double Trouble》。1982 年 8 月，最後一張專輯《Magic》問世。此時，因金錢問題引發的緊張關係已達白熱化，而 Ian Gillan 也需要時間接受聲帶損傷的手術。在《Magic》巡演結束後，樂團於 12 月 17 日在溫布利體育館（Wembley Arena）舉行了最後一場演出，隨後 Ian Gillan 在接受手術期間解散了樂團。接著，他接受了擔任 Black Sabbath 主唱的邀請，這讓 Gillan 的樂團成員，特別是 McCoy，感到難以置信，雙方的積怨至今未解。
