威廉·默多克·鄧肯 (William Murdoch Duncan) 是一位多產的蘇格蘭驚悚小說作家，生於1909年11月18日，格拉斯哥（1976年4月19日亦因癌症逝於格拉斯哥）。他一生創作了約220部犯罪小說，其中53部以本名出版，其餘則使用多個筆名，包括約翰·卡塞爾斯 (John Cassells)、尼爾·格雷厄姆 (Neill Graham)、彼得·馬洛克 (Peter Malloch) 與洛瓦特·馬歇爾 (Lovat Marshall)。在這些作品中，他塑造了以下系列角色：「夢想家」（D·里默警司）、蓋洛德警司、吉利先生、綠袖子、勞里·休姆、萊斯利警司、麥克尼爾警司、弗拉格探長（後升任警司）、「皮卡倫」（盧多維克·薩克森）、詹姆斯·「索羅」·馬爾科姆，以及舒格·肯恩 (Sugar Cane)。
